The Hummingbirds are back and they are hungry! These little birds burn up so much energy. Please consider putting out a special feeder just for them. It is very easy to do and to maintain.
All you need to do is make a simple sugar water for them. Just remember 4 to 1. Four parts water to one part granulated sugar. I like to make small batches since sugar can mold and bacteria can grow if not eaten fairly quickly. Please do not add any food coloring. This can be harmful to the little guys. I have also found that the store bought variety of hummingbird food is not a favorite at my house. They seem to prefer the simple sugar syrup made just for them!
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup water to 1/4 cup sugar. Cook over medium heat until all sugar is dissolved, approx. 3-5 minutes. Allow to cool. Fill your feeder and watch these little birds enjoy meal after meal after meal all day long! You'll even find that you get to know the different birds and yes, I do believe they have a personality. Some are very aggressive, chasing everyone away until they fill their little belly. Some are very passive, sitting on the "fence" waiting patiently for their turn. Some are also very social, allowing others to join them at the banquet.
Please make sure your feeders are cleaned before each refill. This will insure that your hummingbirds will remain healthy throughout the season!

Love hummingbirds, they are such a treat to watch.I sure miss putting out the feeders but as my son is highly allergic to bees I am afraid of attracting wasps with the feeders.Hugs,Jen
I love hummingbirds. They are so beautiful and tiny. Unfortunately we don't have them up here. I miss them. Thanks for sharing tho. :)
