Did I Ever Share This?

It seems that every year I do one large baby quilt or crib set. Last year I made a Sailboat and Pinwheel Quilt and crib set. This year's quilt was one that I made for a good friend's little boy, Reese. The entire quilt was appliqued and the fabrics used were flannels. The picture doesn't show the finishing which included a dove and olive branch or the french knot hair for Mr. & Mrs. Noah. I shadow quilted the entire quilt.

Next year I'm thinking Cherries. Here's a sneak peek:

Been a long time comin'!

We finally took the plunge!!! The last time we bought a brand new car was 25 years ago. We've owned a few used ones in those years, of course. But now that used cars can cost almost as much as new cars, we decided to finally take the plunge and buy a new vehicle!!! There was only one non-negotiable that I needed wanted and that was a remote starter. I've been spoiled since my husband surprised me with one a couple of years ago for Christmas in the car we just traded in :(   So, in these cold Northeastern winters, you can see why I'm spoiled and why this was a non-negotiable!!! Can't wait to pick her up this week!

Holy Moly Batman!

I love that phrase!!!!!! I say it quite a bit. I also say WOW, I don't get it, Arghh, you can do that?, you've got to be kidding...as well as other phrases on a regular basis. I say these things when I'm excited, frustrated, confused and a variety of other emotions.

Tonight I'm saying Holy Moly Batman just because I can't believe I've finished another ornament to get ready to ship in between working, laundry, and a zillion other things. (I wonder how many zeroes there are in a zillion?)

Here she is!

Can It Be?

Can it really be November 8th already? My last post was about longing for a simpler pace of life, enjoying quiet time, spending more time doing what I love. Hah!!! The only thing I can think of is "wishful thinking"! The more I want things to slow down, the more things tend to get hectic and frantic!!!!

On a better note, I was able to spend some much needed time with my grandchildren. That is what helps my life slow down. They are 100% of my focus, I forget everything else around me and have a reason to PLAY!!! Truth be told though, I wear myself out - not getting any younger you know :) So after they left yesterday my day was spent not leaving the house, spending time resting and relaxing, trying to nap (that never works) and I did create a little ornament for a swap I'm participating in!!!

So, truth be told - my life was simpler if only for a few hours!

Here's a pic of the ornament I finished yesterday. You can find purchase info by clicking on the photo.

A longing...

...for days gone by.

I believe in God. I believe that God planned from the foundation of the world the exact time He desired for me to be come into this world. I believe that God has a plan and a purpose for my life in the year 2010 and looking forward to 2011.

But (isn't there usually a "but"), there are times when I feel that I was born at the wrong time, during the wrong era and that I'm doing the exact opposite of what I'm naturally drawn to do.

I read this quote this morning and saw this photo. I am drawn into this photo and am longing! Longing to live in a time when life may have been hard but was simpler, when people were born, were raised, married, rasied their children and died in the same community surrounded by family and friends who loved them, worked side by side with them and were there to help fill a need as was opportunity.

"Me thinks it is a token of healthy and gentle characteristics, when women of high thoughts and accomplishments love to sew; especially as they are never more at home with their own hearts than while so occupied." ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne

Is it wrong to feel this way sometimes? I don't think so. It helps me to focus on what I need to do today to draw other women into a community that works together, laughs together and loves together. As I look at that photo, I have a responsibility as an older woman to be coming alongside the younger women teaching them to love God, to love their husbands, to love their children, to work honestly with their hands and hearts.

Pray with me today as I seek God's opportunities in the midst of this rat race world to be the woman He has created me to be! May I find time to be still in the hustle and bustle of the day to hear the still, small voice of my God who desires to speak to my heart. "Let us be silent that we may hear the whisper of God." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

A Visitor

Well, not a visitor really :) My daughter is home for the week!!! Had my entire family here off and on today. I love it!!! Been cooking up a storm, enjoying spending time together over a delicious meal and just relaxing together. My grandchildren are so much fun. Haven't seen much of them lately (and they are only 10 minutes away) so this week I'm going to soak them up. Everyone has been so busy with work and school, it's so hard to put the brakes on and enjoy what's truly important - family!!!

Just Arrived!!!

I am part of a fabulous Etsy Team called The Old Farmhouse Gathering! This fine group of people are a huge source of encouragement and inspiration. I am proud to be a part of this talented team. Well, we've been participating amongst ourselves in a Fall Swap and is what I received today from Barb at Barb's Heartstrokes!!! My picture doesn't do nearly the justice this artist deserves. This wonderful painting is done on a black fiberglass screening. Her attention to detail is phenomenal!!! Do you see the Tom Turkey and the Pumpkin Head in the lower corners? Well, they aren't a part of the frame (just my silly way of taking a picture). What they are are the cutest magnets that will join themselves on my refrigerator (isn't that where magnets belong?)!!!

Stop by and visit Barb to see her fantastic work. You will not be disappointed at all!!!

Please visit The Old Farmhouse Gathering blog and become a follower. There are some amazing Artisans that are featured each week, along with a variety of other tutorials, tips, Celebrations, giveaways and more. You will also find a link to our Artisan Blog, Cooking Blog and Facebook Fan Page. Lots and lots going on you don't want to miss!!!

Wanted to share...

...how I finished my bedroom. I like the way it turned out. What do you think? The wording "Always Kiss Me Goodnight" is not a stencil or a wall decal. I printed out the saying using my computer and the banner setting on my printer. I then transferred this to my wall and hand painted the wording.

My inspiration for the room actually began with the throw pillows on the bed. I loved the soft, romantic colors and used them to create a room that is clean and inviting. Sometimes that's all it takes is a swatch of color to get your creative juices flowing.

Now, what to do with that laundry room???
